Microsoft Copilot Unveils App Builder and Workflows

Microsoft Copilot Unveils App Builder and Automated Workflows

Microsoft has rolled out two significant updates to its Microsoft 365 Copilot platform: App Builder and Workflows. These features empower employees to create custom applications and automate routine tasks using simple text commands, further solidifying Copilot's role as a productivity powerhouse.

App Builder: No-Code Application Development

The App Builder feature allows users to construct basic tools—such as project dashboards or data tables—by describing their needs in natural language. Leveraging data from Word, Excel, or SharePoint, employees can deploy functional, secure applications within minutes, eliminating the need for coding expertise. This democratizes app development, enabling non-technical staff to tailor solutions directly aligned with their workflows.

Workflows: Streamlining Repetitive Tasks

The new Workflows feature takes automation a step further. Users describe desired actions (e.g., sending emails, updating Teams channels, or managing calendars) via text prompts, and Copilot executes them across Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and other Microsoft 365 apps. This reduces manual effort while maintaining consistency in routine processes.

Security and Availability

Microsoft assures that both tools adhere to enterprise-grade security and compliance standards, with access controlled through the Microsoft 365 management console. Currently:

  • Workflows is available to participants in the Frontier Program.
  • App Builder will launch soon for broader access.

Key Points:

  • App Builder: Enables no-code app creation using natural language.
  • Workflows: Automates tasks across Microsoft 365 apps.
  • Security: Follows existing compliance protocols with centralized management.
  • Target Users: Non-technical employees seeking productivity enhancements.
