Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has unveiled Claude for Excel, a new integration designed specifically for financial services professionals. The tool embeds Anthropic's conversational AI directly into Microsoft's ubiquitous spreadsheet software.

The integration allows Claude to:

  • Read and analyze Excel workbooks
  • Modify spreadsheets with tracked changes
  • Debug complex financial formulas
  • Generate complete financial models from scratch

The system provides clear explanations for all modifications, significantly reducing the time analysts spend on repetitive tasks. What previously took hours can now be accomplished through natural language interactions.

Microsoft Partnership Deepens

This release expands Anthropic's existing collaboration with Microsoft. Users can now:

  • Create and edit Office files directly within Claude
  • Search across Microsoft 365 including emails and Teams chats
  • Access Claude models through Microsoft Copilot Studio and Researcher Agent

The company has enrolled 1,000 early testers from Max, Enterprise, and Teams tiers to evaluate the Excel add-in before wider deployment.

  • LSEG: Market data feeds
  • Moody's: Credit ratings
  • Egnyte: Secure document repositories Additional integrations with Chronograph, Third Bridge, and MT Newswires enhance portfolio monitoring capabilities.

Specialized Financial Skills

The release includes six pre-built agent skills tailored for finance professionals:

  1. Discounted cash flow modeling
  2. Due diligence automation
  3. Company profile generation
  4. Startup coverage reports
  5. Valuation analysis
  6. Research compilation These tools leverage Sonnet 4.5's strong performance (55.3%) in financial benchmark tests.

The enhancements support banks, asset managers, and investment firms across front-, middle-, and back-office functions.
