Anthropic Hits $1B Revenue with Claude Code While Eyeing IPO

Anthropic's Meteoric Rise: $1B Revenue and Strategic Acquisitions

In a remarkable feat for the AI industry, Anthropic announced its Claude Code product has achieved $1 billion in annualized revenue - barely six months after its debut. What began as an internal engineering experiment has transformed into mission-critical software for corporate giants including Netflix, Spotify, KPMG, L'Oreal, and Salesforce.

Bun Acquisition Supercharges Development Tools

The company didn't stop at financial announcements. In a strategic move to bolster its technical infrastructure, Anthropic acquired Bun, the open-source toolkit darling of JavaScript and TypeScript developers. Bun's all-in-one solution combines runtime environment, package manager, bundler and test runner - exactly the kind of "plumbing" AI-powered coding needs.

"This isn't just another acquisition," explains an industry insider. "With over 7 million monthly downloads and 82,000 GitHub stars, Bun brings both proven technology and passionate community support." Notably, Bun will maintain its open-source status under the MIT license.

IPO Rumors Reach Fever Pitch

The Financial Times reports Anthropic is laying groundwork for an IPO that could value the company north of $300 billion. They've enlisted Wilson Sonsini - the legal brains behind Google's and LinkedIn's public offerings - suggesting serious intent. However, company spokespeople remain coy: "Going public is standard practice at this scale," they noted carefully, "but no final decisions have been made."

These developments come amid intense speculation about rival OpenAI's plans, despite CFO Sarah Friar's denials. Last month's reports of potential investments from Microsoft ($5B) and NVIDIA ($10B) could push Anthropic's valuation to $350 billion.

Key Points:

  • 💰 Revenue rocket: Claude Code hits $1B ARR in record time
  • 🛠️ Strategic buy: Bun acquisition strengthens developer tools
  • 📈 Wall Street bound: Potential IPO could value Anthropic at $300B+
