Ant Group's EnergyTS Outperforms Google, Amazon in Energy AI

On March 26th, Ant Group's financial technology division, Ant Fortune, unveiled EnergyTS, a specialized time-series large language model for the renewable energy sector. The announcement was made at the New Energy Digital Asset Community Spring Summit in Suzhou, marking a significant milestone for Chinese innovation in energy AI.

Superior Performance in Renewable Energy Predictions

EnergyTS has demonstrated remarkable accuracy in photovoltaic power generation forecasting, outperforming leading international models like Google's TimesFM-V2.0 and Amazon's Chronos-Large. In T+1 day predictions, the model achieved a mean absolute error of just 0.0233, representing a 22.4% improvement over Google's benchmark. For T+3 day forecasts, the accuracy gap widened to 46.8%.

Addressing Renewable Energy Challenges

The renewable energy sector, particularly solar and wind power, grapples with inherent instability in power generation efficiency. EnergyTS leverages advanced AI technology to provide precise predictions for electricity supply and demand. This capability helps mitigate risks tied to price volatility and suboptimal energy storage scheduling, empowering the industry with data-driven decision-making tools.

Key Features of EnergyTS

The model incorporates several groundbreaking features:

  • Multi-scale training: Adapts to varying time horizons for predictions.
  • Multi-modal fusion: Integrates diverse data sources for comprehensive analysis.
  • Multi-task learning: Simultaneously addresses multiple prediction challenges.
  • Zero-shot cold start: Functions effectively even with limited initial data.

These innovations enable EnergyTS to serve as an "out-of-the-box" solution across applications including photovoltaic systems, wind farms, energy storage networks, microgrids, and power trading platforms.

Strategic Vision from Ant Fortune Leadership

Zhao Wenbiao, CEO of Ant Fortune, emphasized the company's commitment to solving industry-specific challenges through AI innovation: "We're focused on enabling intelligent transformation across sectors. Our roadmap includes deeper integration of large language models with real-world industry problems."

Breaking Technological Barriers

Industry analysts highlight that EnergyTS represents a potential shift in global AI dominance within the energy sector. By surpassing established Western models, the technology could reduce reliance on European and American solutions while boosting operational efficiency and profitability for renewable energy providers.

Ant Group's Broader AI Strategy

The launch aligns with Ant Group's diversified approach to AI development. The company employs hardware from multiple suppliers to reduce training costs and minimize dependency on any single vendor. This strategy has already borne fruit in healthcare, where Ant's medical AI solutions are currently deployed across seven major institutions.

Key Points

  1. EnergyTS achieves 22.4-46.8% greater accuracy than Google/Amazon models in solar power forecasts.
  2. The model addresses critical challenges of renewable energy instability through AI-driven predictions.
  3. Features include multi-scale training and zero-shot capabilities for versatile applications.
  4. Represents China's growing competitiveness in specialized AI solutions against Western tech giants.
  5. Part of Ant Group's broader strategy combining technical innovation with supply chain resilience.
