ZTE's AI Button Sparks Buying Frenzy as Phones Sell Out Instantly

ZTE's Revolutionary AI Button Takes Smartphones by Storm

Investors cheered as ZTE shares hit limit-up on December 1st following the surprise launch of its "Doubao Assistant" - a hardware-enabled AI feature developed jointly with ByteDance. The collaboration goes beyond typical brand partnerships, embedding artificial intelligence directly into the phone's operating system.

How It Works: AI at Your Fingertips

The standout feature? A dedicated physical button on nubia M153 prototypes that activates Doubao's large language model instantly - no unlocking or app opening required. "We're making AI as fundamental as the camera," declared ZTE Terminal CEO Ni Fei during the product unveiling.

Early demonstrations showed impressive capabilities:

  • Lightning-fast shopping: Asking "Find me the cheapest AirPods Pro" triggers simultaneous searches across JD.com, Taobao and Pinduoduo, delivering price comparisons in under two seconds
  • Context-aware assistance: Vague commands like "Remind me to leave tomorrow morning" automatically incorporate weather forecasts and traffic data
  • One-click payments: Integrated checkout functionality completes purchases without switching apps

Market Goes Wild for AI Hardware

The initial engineering prototypes vanished from ZTE's online store within half an hour. Secondary markets immediately priced them at 40% premiums - rare enthusiasm for a non-flagship device.

Analysts point to the strategic advantage of hardware integration. "Physical buttons dramatically lower adoption barriers," noted tech analyst Li Wei from Counterpoint Research. "If ZTE can maintain this lead through software updates, they could seriously challenge domestic leaders."

Challenges Ahead

Despite early excitement, hurdles remain:

  • Voice recognition accuracy in noisy environments needs improvement
  • Cross-app permissions raise privacy concerns
  • Maintaining user engagement beyond novelty phase will be crucial

The real test comes when mainstream models launch next year. Can ZTE convert this buzz into lasting market share? That answer may determine whether China gets its first true "AI phone" leader.
