Telegram and xAI Seal $300M Deal to Integrate Grok Chatbot

In a landmark move for AI integration in messaging platforms, Telegram has announced a $300 million partnership with Elon Musk's artificial intelligence firm, xAI. The deal will see xAI's Grok chatbot fully embedded within Telegram's ecosystem for at least one year.

A Strategic Alliance Pavel Durov, Telegram's CEO, revealed that the agreement includes both cash and equity components. "xAI will pay Telegram $300 million in combined cash and stock," Durov stated. Additionally, Telegram stands to gain 50% of revenue from xAI subscriptions purchased through its platform.

From Premium to All Users While Grok was initially available only to Telegram's premium subscribers earlier this year, the new partnership suggests the AI assistant may soon become accessible to all users. A demonstration video shared by Durov showcases Grok's capabilities when pinned to chat windows or accessed via Telegram's search bar - a feature mirroring Meta's AI integration in WhatsApp and Instagram.

Beyond Basic Chat Functions Grok isn't just another chatbot. The AI demonstrates sophisticated functionality including:

  • Drafting conversation suggestions
  • Summarizing lengthy chats or documents
  • Generating custom stickers
  • Assisting businesses with customer queries and compliance audits

The integration positions Telegram as a frontrunner in the race to embed advanced AI tools within messaging platforms. With over 800 million monthly active users, the partnership could significantly expand Grok's user base while giving Telegram a competitive edge against rivals like WhatsApp and Signal.
