HKMA Unveils AI Sandbox Participants, Ant Digital Joins as Partner

HKMA Advances AI Adoption with Sandbox Program Expansion

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has unveiled the participant list for the second phase of its Generative AI Sandbox Program, developed in collaboration with Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks. The program includes 20 banks and 14 technology partners working on 27 use cases aimed at transforming financial services through artificial intelligence.

Core Technology Partnerships

Ant Digital, the independent technology commercialization arm of Ant Group, emerges as a core technology partner in the initiative. The company will contribute:

  • AI intelligent agent services
  • Advanced security products
  • Risk management solutions

The sandbox program specifically targets two strategic areas: "AI governance" and "AI against AI" defenses. Several participating institutions are developing systems to automatically detect and review AI-generated content at scale, improving accuracy while promoting responsible AI implementation in Hong Kong's financial sector.

Banking Innovations in Development

Notable collaborations include:

  • Fubon Bank (Hong Kong) partnering with Alibaba Cloud, Ant Digital, and Weitou Zhikong to create an AI-powered banking assistant. This solution promises:
    • Personalized financial advice based on customer behavior patterns
    • Intelligent risk control mechanisms
    • Adaptive security features to combat fraud
  • ZOLOZ, an Ant Digital subsidiary, providing AI risk control solutions featuring:
    • Facial recognition technology
    • Document authentication systems
    • Risk graph computing capabilities

The solutions boast impressive performance metrics, including millisecond-level response times and identification accuracy rates exceeding 99.9%.

Proven Track Record

Ant Digital brings demonstrated success to the program, having previously helped Shanghai Bank implement a "Conversational as a Service" solution that increased business conversion rates by 10%. The company established its international headquarters in Hong Kong earlier this year and already serves major financial institutions including:

  • Bank of China (Hong Kong)
  • Standard Chartered Bank
  • Nanyang Commercial Bank
  • Hopewell Bank

The sandbox program represents Hong Kong's latest effort to position itself as a global leader in fintech innovation while maintaining robust regulatory standards for emerging technologies.

Key Points:

  2. Program focuses on governance frameworks and defensive AI applications
  3. Ant Digital provides core technologies including intelligent agents and security solutions
  4. Solutions demonstrate measurable improvements in efficiency and risk management
