Claude Opus4.1 Launches with Enhanced Programming Capabilities

Anthropic Unveils Claude Opus4.1 with Major Programming Boost

Anthropic has officially launched Claude Opus4.1, an upgraded version of its flagship AI model, focusing on enhanced performance in agentic tasks, real-world programming, and reasoning. The update particularly shines in programming and data analysis, marking a significant leap forward for developers and enterprises.

Programming Performance Reaches New Heights

The standout feature of Claude Opus4.1 is its 74.5% score in the SWE-bench Verified programming evaluation, showcasing its ability to handle complex coding challenges. Early feedback from GitHub developers highlights its superiority in multi-file code refactoring. Notably, Rakuten Group reported that the model excels at pinpointing errors in large codebases, reducing unnecessary changes and potential bugs.

Advancements in Research and Data Analysis

Beyond programming, Opus4.1 demonstrates notable progress in deep research and data analysis, particularly in detail tracking and agentic search capabilities. Benchmark tests from Windsurf reveal a performance improvement of one standard deviation over its predecessor, comparable to the leap from Sonnet3.7 to Sonnet4.

Safety and Deployment

Anthropic emphasizes that Opus4.1 is a progressive upgrade, not a revolutionary change, adhering to AI Safety Level 3 (ASL-3) standards. The model shows enhanced robustness in safety assessments, with a 98.76% harm-free response rate for illegal requests. It also maintains consistent risk levels in child safety, political bias, and agentic ability tests while reducing cooperation in extreme abuse scenarios by 25%.

The new model is now available to all paid users via Claude Code, API, Amazon Bedrock, and Google Cloud Vertex AI, priced identically to Opus4.

Key Points:

  • Programming Score: 74.5% in SWE-bench evaluation.
  • Multi-File Refactoring: Improved accuracy for developers.
  • Safety: Maintains ASL-3 standards with 98.76% harm-free responses.
  • Availability: Accessible on major platforms at no additional cost.
