The tool debuted at WordPress's annual meeting, where Automattic CEO Matt Mullenweg showcased its impressive capabilities. "What used to take developers days and thousands of dollars can now be done in your browser almost instantly," Mullenweg explained while demonstrating Telex-generated features.
Telex specializes in creating Gutenberg blocks - the building blocks of WordPress sites. Early adopters like developer Nick Hamze have already used it to build practical tools including:

- Custom pricing calculators
- Real-time store hour displays
Breaking Down Barriers
The demonstrations highlighted how Telex removes traditional development hurdles. That price comparison tool? Previously required specialized coding knowledge and significant time investment. Now it appears with just a few prompts.
"We're seeing creative applications emerge daily," Mullenweg noted. Developer Tammie Lister pushes boundaries further, using Telex to create everything from playable ASCII Tetris blocks to Halloween-themed elements.
Beyond Blocks: WordPress's AI Future
The platform isn't stopping at Telex. Plans for 2026 include introducing evaluation criteria for AI models working within WordPress ecosystems. These standards will help assess AI performance on tasks ranging from plugin replacement to content editing.
The capability API and MCP adapter represent additional infrastructure upgrades coming soon. Together with Telex, they'll help WordPress maintain its position as web development evolves.
