Merkel Impressed by Chinese AI Glasses During Hangzhou Visit

Merkel's AI Glasses Experience Sparks Business Interest

During her recent visit to Hangzhou, German Chancellor Angela Merkel made an unexpected stop at Lingoport (Rokid)'s demonstration area, where she enthusiastically tried their latest AI-powered glasses. The impromptu tech demo quickly turned into a business opportunity as several accompanying German executives placed immediate orders.

A Surprise Hit Among Delegates

"We didn't expect such high-level interest," admitted Liu Mingming, Rokid's founder and CEO. "When Chancellor Merkel asked to try the glasses herself, it became the highlight of our showcase." The device's real-time translation capabilities particularly impressed Merkel, who praised its accuracy and speed before inviting her delegation to experience the technology firsthand.

Germany: A Strategic Market for Chinese Tech

The enthusiastic response builds on Rokid's existing European foothold. The company already partners with Audi and enjoys strong sales through Amazon Germany. Meanwhile, Leap Motor founder Zhu Jiangming used the event to discuss potential collaborations with BMW Group chairman Karl T. Frey. Leap Motor plans to strengthen its German presence with a new Munich design office.

Broader Cooperation Horizons

Han Bicheng of Qiangnao Technology sees deeper potential: "Germany's precision engineering combined with China's innovation speed creates perfect synergy." Industry observers note growing bilateral cooperation in green technology and AI development beyond this single product success.

The spontaneous demo not only showcased China's advancing tech capabilities but may have opened new doors for cross-border innovation partnerships.

Key Points:

  • ✅ Merkel's positive reception of Rokid glasses led to immediate business interest
  • 🌍 Germany serves as crucial European market for multiple Chinese tech firms
  • 🤝 Event facilitated high-level discussions about future Sino-German collaborations
