Kuaishou cracks down: Over 5,000 AI-altered videos removed in cleanup
Kuaishou Takes Hard Stance Against Problematic AI Videos
China's short-video giant Kuaishou has wrapped up a significant cleanup operation targeting AI-modified content that violated community guidelines. In just one month, the platform removed 5,576 problematic videos and issued warnings to 11 offending accounts.

What Triggered the Crackdown?
The special campaign, launched January 1st following directives from China's National Radio and Television Administration, focused on three main violation types:
- Mischaracterization of classic literature figures (like those from China's Four Great Classical Novels) through inappropriate crossovers or personality changes
- Sensationalized adaptations adding modern elements or violent twists to historical dramas
- Disturbing animations featuring familiar children's characters engaged in violent acts or horror scenarios
"We're committed to maintaining authenticity while embracing technological innovation," explained a Kuaishou Security Center representative. "This means drawing clear lines when AI tools are used irresponsibly."
Ongoing Vigilance Against AI Abuse
The platform isn't stopping at this initial sweep. Kuaishou plans to implement:
- Enhanced detection algorithms to spot policy-violating AI content faster
- Tiered penalties ranging from warnings to permanent bans for repeat offenders
- Special protections shielding younger users from harmful material
Users can contribute by reporting suspicious content through built-in channels. "Community watchfulness complements our technical safeguards," noted the security team.
The move reflects growing industry concerns about synthetic media's potential misuse as generative AI becomes more accessible. While celebrating creative applications, platforms face increasing pressure to prevent harmful distortions.
Key Points:
- 5,576 videos removed in February cleanup
- Focused on three violation categories involving classic works
- Plans for ongoing monitoring with improved detection
- Users encouraged to report problematic content
- Part of broader push for responsible AI use
