Juicebox Secures $36M in Series A Funding Led by Sequoia

Juicebox Raises $36M to Transform Recruitment with AI

September 26, 2025 — The recruitment industry is witnessing a seismic shift as artificial intelligence reshapes talent acquisition. Leading this transformation is Juicebox, an AI-powered talent search engine that announced today it has secured $36 million in total funding, including a $30 million Series A round led by Sequoia Capital. Remarkably, this startup has achieved over $10 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) with just a core team of four.

The Genesis of Juicebox

Founded by David Paffenholz (22) and Ishan Gupta (19), Juicebox was born from the realization that large language models could revolutionize how companies identify top talent. Traditional methods rely on keyword searches across resumes and LinkedIn profiles—a time-consuming process requiring manual review. Juicebox’s AI-driven engine instead analyzes professional profiles, personal websites, and other public data using natural language processing to pinpoint the most qualified candidates.

After participating in Y Combinator’s 2022 summer cohort, Paffenholz and Gupta spent years refining their product. By late 2023, their AI search engine, PeopleGPT, was ready for market adoption. Clients ranged from small startups to major firms like Cognition, Ramp, and Perplexity. Today, the platform serves over 2,500 clients, with ARR surpassing $10 million.

Why Investors Are Betting on Juicebox

David Cahn, a partner at Sequoia Capital, first learned about Juicebox through an early-stage entrepreneur who credited the platform for hiring over a dozen employees without recruiters. "This was historically near-impossible," Cahn told TechCrunch. Further investigation revealed that Sequoia’s internal recruiting team was also using Juicebox—solidifying Cahn’s conviction in its potential.

"I’ve rarely seen a four-person team support 2,000 customers," Cahn remarked. Though Juicebox has since expanded to 12 employees, it continues acquiring clients organically—without a sales team.

How Juicebox Stands Out

The platform’s edge lies in its human-like inference capabilities. "We uncover candidates others miss because their profiles lack expected keywords," Paffenholz explained. This appeals not only to small firms lacking recruiters but also to enterprise talent teams seeking efficiency gains.

Key features include:

  • Automated candidate searches: Freeing recruiters to focus on relationship-building.
  • Intelligent outreach: AI agents send emails and schedule initial calls.
  • Speed: Critical for firms racing to build AI talent pipelines.

Competitive Landscape and Future Outlook

While established players like Eightfold integrate AI into their products, Cahn believes Juicebox could become "the default hiring tool for startups," akin to Stripe for payments. Industry analysts note its success underscores AI’s disruptive potential in recruitment—especially as demand for tech talent grows.

Key Points:

  • 🚀 $36M raised: Series A led by Sequoia Capital ($30M).
  • 💡 AI-driven search: Analyzes public data beyond keywords.
  • 📈 Rapid growth: 2,500+ clients; $10M+ ARR with minimal staff.
  • 🔮 Future vision: To be the go-to hiring tool for startups.
