Figure AI Unveils Figure03: A Humanoid Robot for Home and Commercial Use

Figure AI Unveils Figure03: A Humanoid Robot for Home and Commercial Use

Figure AI has introduced its third-generation humanoid robot, Figure03, marking a significant step toward practical deployment beyond laboratory prototypes. Designed for home and commercial use, the robot aims to handle everyday tasks autonomously, such as laundry, cleaning, and dishwashing. CEO Brett Adcock emphasized its independence: "Nothing in this movie is remotely operated."

Advanced Autonomy with Helix AI

The core of Figure03's functionality lies in its proprietary "vision-language-action" model, Helix. This system enables the robot to perform chores without human intervention, responding to voice commands from users. Figure03 can also navigate complex environments, including climbing stairs and maneuvering through narrow spaces.

Performance and Hardware Innovations

Figure03 boasts several hardware upgrades over its predecessor:

  • Size and Power: Standing at 1.68 meters tall and weighing 60 kilograms, it can carry up to 20 kilograms and move at 1.2 meters per second. Its electric design allows for five hours of operation on a single charge, with support for wireless charging.
  • Enhanced Sensors: The robot features upgraded cameras with double the frame rate, 75% reduced latency, and a 60% wider field of view. Notably, cameras embedded in its palms provide backup visibility when the main view is obstructed.
  • Custom Tactile Feedback: Figure AI developed proprietary touch sensors sensitive enough to detect the weight of a paperclip. Softer fingertip materials improve grip stability.
  • Safety Features: Foam padding and washable fabric covers enhance safety for home use.

Challenges Ahead

While Figure AI touts Figure03 as its first mass-production-ready robot, critical details like pricing, release dates, and independent performance benchmarks are missing. The company plans an initial annual production capacity of 12,000 units, scaling to 100,000 within four years. However, the "reality gap"—bridging controlled testing with unpredictable real-world environments—remains a hurdle.

Key Points:

  • Helix AI: Powers autonomous task execution via voice commands.
  • Hardware Upgrades: Lighter design, advanced sensors, and custom tactile feedback.
  • Production Goals: Targets 100K units annually within four years.
  • Unanswered Questions: Pricing, release timeline, and real-world performance still unclear.
