Youzan Denies Ties to Controversial AI Poisoning Case
Youzan Distances Itself from AI Manipulation Scandal
Chinese e-commerce solutions provider Youzan has issued a firm denial regarding its alleged connection to an "AI poisoning" scheme uncovered during CCTV's high-profile 315 Consumer Rights Day broadcast.
Clarifying the Connection
The controversy erupted when media reports suggested products mentioned during the expose—particularly those involving GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) technology—might be linked to Nanjing Xiaoliebian Network Technology Co., Ltd., a company Youzan invested in back in 2021.

"Our investment was strictly limited to developing tools for the enterprise WeChat ecosystem," a Youzan spokesperson explained. "There's absolutely no overlap—financial, operational, or technical—with the GEO business implicated in this case."
After thorough investigation, Youzan confirmed the controversial "Liqing GEO Optimization System"—accused of artificially altering outputs from large language models—was neither developed nor operated by Xiaoliebian.
The Dark Side of GEO Optimization
The scandal reveals how legitimate AI concepts can be twisted for unethical purposes. According to investigators, certain companies allegedly:
- Created fabricated product information
- Flooded platforms with promotional content
- Manipulated AI systems into providing false recommendations
The scheme particularly targeted health-related queries like "recommended smart health bands," essentially poisoning AI knowledge bases with misleading data.
Drawing Ethical Boundaries
Youzan emphasized its own AI marketing service "Add Me as Your Recommender" operates on completely different principles. "We optimize authentic brand messaging, never engage in deceptive packaging," company representatives stated.
The firm has reportedly established compliance protocols with major AI model developers. As large language models become increasingly commercialized, distinguishing between: ✔ Ethical content enhancement ✖ Malicious information pollution has emerged as a critical challenge for the industry.
Regulators are expected to intensify scrutiny of AI-generated content authenticity following this incident.
