Merkel Impressed by Chinese AI Glasses During Hangzhou Visit

Merkel's Surprise Tech Test Drives Business Deals

During her recent visit to Hangzhou, German Chancellor Angela Merkel made an unexpected stop at Zhejiang Lingoport's demonstration area. What began as curiosity about their AI glasses turned into a showcase of China's technological prowess.

A Chancellor's Seal of Approval

The moment Merkel slipped on Rokid's AR glasses, the room fell silent. "The accuracy is remarkable," she remarked after testing the real-time translation feature between Mandarin and German. Her genuine enthusiasm proved contagious - seven German business leaders immediately requested demonstrations and placed preliminary orders.

Liu Mingming, Rokid's founder, still sounds surprised recalling the encounter: "We never expected such high-level interest. When Chancellor Merkel started explaining the features to her delegation herself, we knew we'd created something special."

Germany: A Strategic Market for Chinese Tech

Rokid has been quietly building its European presence through partnerships with automakers like Audi. Their glasses already rank among Amazon Germany's top-selling tech accessories. But Merkel's endorsement could accelerate expansion plans.

Meanwhile, Leap Motor founder Zhu Jiangming used the visit to discuss electric vehicle collaborations with BMW chairman Karl T. Frey. The Chinese automaker plans to open a Munich design studio later this year.

Beyond Hardware: A Meeting of Minds

Han Bicheng of Qiangnao Technology sees deeper significance in these exchanges: "Germany's precision engineering combined with China's digital innovation creates perfect synergy," he observed. This philosophy extends to green technology partnerships gaining momentum between both nations.

The spontaneous tech demonstration underscores how Chinese innovations are capturing global attention. As one German executive put it while trying the glasses: "This isn't just translation - it's removing barriers."

Key Points:

  • Instant Impact: Merkel's positive reaction led to immediate orders from German business leaders
  • Strategic Footprint: Rokid strengthens European presence through automotive partnerships
  • Broader Collaboration: Event highlighted growing Sino-German ties in AI and sustainable tech
