Luo Yonghao's New AI App Digests Books for You - Under 40 Yuan a Year

Luo Yonghao's AI Book Digest App Hits the Market

At last night's technology conference, serial entrepreneur Luo Yonghao took the wraps off his latest venture - an AI-powered book summary service called "Qie Ting". Developed by his company Thin Red Line, the app promises to give time-strapped readers comprehensive book analyses they can absorb during their daily commute.

How Qie Ting Works

The app employs natural language processing and knowledge graph technology to break down books into structured summaries. Each title gets 1-2 hours of audio analysis, distilling key concepts into digestible chunks perfect for listening while driving or riding public transport.

One standout feature demonstrated at launch was voice customization. "We had comedian Niao Niao record samples," Luo explained while playing back an analysis delivered in the performer's distinctive tone. "Soon you'll be able to have your favorite authors 'read' their own summaries."

Content and Pricing Strategy

The service launches with curated lists including Douban's Top 250 titles, spanning literature, economics, psychology and more. "We're solving two problems," said Luo. "Not just understanding books deeply, but helping people decide what to read next."

At 9.9 yuan monthly or 37.8 yuan annually, Qie Ting positions itself as an affordable learning tool. New users get a free 7-day trial, and there are bonuses for inviting friends.

Questions Remain

While the technology impressed attendees, industry observers noted several challenges:

  • Copyright agreements with publishers
  • Expanding beyond early adopters
  • Whether users will prefer AI analyses to traditional reading long-term

"This is just our first step into AI content," Luo acknowledged when pressed about these issues. "We're committed to working through them responsibly."

The app is now available on all major platforms.

Key Points:

  • Deep dives: Each book gets 1-2 hours of audio analysis
  • Voice cloning: Customize narrators' voices
  • Budget-friendly: Less than 40 yuan per year
  • Broad selection: Includes Douban Top 250 titles
