How a Small Town Grocery Store Sold 5,000 Orders with AI's Help

The Unexpected AI Shopping Boom

"We couldn't even handle all the orders with three phones going at once," says Mr. Yang, owner of Yang Pengchu's Grocery Store in Jixian County, Yuncheng City. "At our busiest, we didn't have time to eat - but we couldn't stop smiling."

During what should have been a quiet Spring Festival holiday, the small shop found itself at the center of an unlikely tech revolution. Customers discovered they could use the Qianwen app's voice shopping feature to order local eggs and other goods with simple voice commands like "Qianwen, buy me eggs."

Record-Breaking Sales

The results were staggering. From their usual 20 daily orders, the store suddenly found itself processing over 1,300 orders in a single day. In just ten days, they sold more than 5,000 items - about seven times their normal Spring Festival sales volume.

"We had to call in Taobao Flash Sale operators just to help us pack everything," Yang recalls, still amazed by the sudden surge. Shelves that normally held modest stock were emptied repeatedly as delivery riders streamed in and out.

Eggs Become the Star Product

The unexpected bestseller? Fresh local eggs - a staple of Spring Festival celebrations in the region.

"We've been selling eggs here for over 30 years," Yang explains proudly. "They're known for being fresh and high quality - that's always been our reputation."

The combination of trusted local products and irresistible AI-powered discounts proved explosive. With Qianwen offering ¥25 coupons, customers could essentially get one tray of eggs (normally ¥15-16) for free, or two trays for just a few yuan more after discounts.

Technology Meets Tradition

The irony? The tech-savvy shoppers ended up teaching the store owner about the app that transformed his business.

"I didn't even know what Qianwen was at first," Yang admits with a laugh. Young customers patiently showed him how the voice shopping feature worked - how saying "buy me eggs" would automatically select products, apply discounts, and place orders at his store.

What began as holiday promotion has now become part of daily life. The store participates in Qianwen's "first order discount" program where users can save up to ¥3.80 on their daily purchases - making AI-powered shopping both convenient and affordable for rural customers.

Key Points:

  • Unexpected Success: Small rural grocery saw sales increase sevenfold during Spring Festival
  • AI Simplicity: Voice commands like "buy me eggs" made ordering effortless for customers
  • Local Favorite: Fresh eggs became breakout product thanks to quality reputation + deep discounts
  • Tech Adoption: Store owner learned about AI features from his own customers
