How Gemini in Chrome Works

The assistant operates similarly to the web and mobile versions of Gemini chatbot, providing:

  • Instant answers to queries
  • In-depth information analysis
  • Interactive conversations

A standout feature allows users to share up to 10 open tabs with Gemini, enabling contextual understanding of their browsing session. By clicking the "Ask Gemini" button in the browser's top-right corner, users can engage with the assistant at any time.

Availability and Requirements

The feature is currently accessible to:

  • Workspace users on Mac, Windows, or iOS devices
  • Those with access to Gemini app core services
  • Users aged 18+ in the United States with language set to English

Google plans gradual expansion across multiple Workspace tiers:

  • Business Starter/Standard/Plus
  • Enterprise series
  • Education series

Note: Not all plans support Gemini app core services.

Privacy and Administrative Controls

To safeguard sensitive data:

  • The feature is disabled by default for HIPAA-compliant organizations.
  • Workspace administrators can toggle functionality at:
    • Domain level
    • Organizational unit level
    • User group level

Usage data integrates with Gemini app metrics for consolidated reporting via the management console.
