Spanish startup Xoople lands $130M to launch AI-powered satellite network

Spanish Tech Startup Soars with $130M Satellite AI Project

In a significant boost for Europe's space tech sector, Barcelona-based Xoople has closed a $130 million funding round. This injection brings the startup's total funding to $225 million as it prepares to launch its groundbreaking AI-focused satellite constellation.

Mapping Earth for Machine Learning

Founded in 2019, Xoople has spent seven years developing its EarthAI platform - a Microsoft Azure-powered system that creates a continuously updated database of geophysical changes. "We're building the nervous system for planetary-scale AI," explains CEO Fabrizio Pirondini. The platform already processes satellite imagery from agencies like ESA, transforming raw data into actionable insights for environmental monitoring and risk prediction.

The 'Earth Record System'

What sets Xoople apart is its focus on creating what it calls the "Earth Record System" - proprietary datasets that bridge digital systems with physical reality. As enterprises increasingly rely on autonomous agents, having reliable, real-time planetary data becomes crucial. "AI is only as good as its training data," Pirondini notes. "We're providing the high-quality inputs that will power tomorrow's intelligent systems."

The startup has identified numerous applications:

  • Supply chain optimization through real-time infrastructure monitoring
  • Agricultural forecasting with unprecedented granularity
  • Urban planning powered by constantly updated city models
  • Insurance risk modeling using hyper-accurate environmental data

Strategic Partnerships and Next Steps

Xoople's ambitions received a major credibility boost through its partnership with U.S. defense contractor L3Harris Technologies. Together, they're developing specialized sensors for the upcoming satellite network. While launch dates remain undisclosed, industry watchers expect initial deployments later this year.

The funding comes as demand grows for physical-world intelligence in AI applications. "Every computing revolution needs its infrastructure pioneers," Pirondini reflects. "We aim to be those builders for the age of planetary-scale AI."

Key Points:

  • 💰 $130M raised - Total funding now reaches $225 million
  • 🛰️ AI-first satellites - Constellation designed specifically for machine learning applications
  • 🌍 Real-time Earth data - Continuous updates through EarthAI platform
  • 🤝 Defense partnership - Collaborating with L3Harris on sensor technology
