Robots Could Master 90% of Tasks Within Two Years, Says AI Leader

The Coming Robot Revolution: What to Expect

Speaking at the 2026 China Online Media Forum, BotGen founder Wang Xingxiong painted an exciting picture of our robotic future. His keynote address, titled "When Robots Take Over the Screen," outlined how artificial intelligence is about to make a giant leap from digital assistants to physical helpers.

The 'GPT Moment' for Robots

Wang introduced a compelling concept he calls the "GPT Moment" for embodied intelligence - that crucial turning point when robots become genuinely useful. "Imagine telling your robot to clean the house or prepare dinner," Wang explained, "and it just figures out how to do it, even if it's never been in your home before."

He predicts this milestone will arrive when robots can successfully complete 80-90% of tasks based solely on voice commands in completely unfamiliar environments. While some industry colleagues believe we might see this breakthrough within 18 months, Wang offered a more conservative estimate of two to three years.

Movement Meets Intelligence

The BotGen CEO emphasized that true robot usefulness requires more than just smart software. "Mobility is everything," he noted. "A brilliant AI trapped in a stationary box can't help with physical tasks."

Wang described what he terms "parallel development of movement and work" - the idea that robots need both physical dexterity and cognitive ability to be truly effective. Humanoid robots especially must master complex combinations of movements before they can tackle real-world jobs.

Practical Applications Coming Soon

Looking ahead, Wang expects significant advances in embodied intelligence technology within the next year or two. These breakthroughs could finally bring robots out of factories and research labs into our homes and workplaces.

"The applications are endless," Wang said enthusiastically. "From healthcare assistants to construction workers to household helpers - once robots can adapt autonomously to new situations, every industry will benefit."

The speech left attendees buzzing with excitement about how soon we might see truly capable robotic assistants becoming part of everyday life.

Key Points:

  • Major milestone coming: Robots may soon handle most tasks through voice commands alone
  • Timeline: Between 18 months to 3 years for this "GPT Moment"
  • Critical requirement: Advanced mobility must accompany AI smarts
  • Real-world impact: Could transform healthcare, construction, domestic work and more
