Strategic Market Focus

Nick Turley, Vice President and Head of ChatGPT at OpenAI, emphasized India's importance: "Since launching ChatGPT Go in India, we've seen remarkable creativity and adoption. With our DevDay Exchange approaching, we want to make AI more accessible nationwide through this free year-long opportunity."

India represents OpenAI's second-largest market globally and shows exceptional growth momentum. The company reported that paid subscriptions doubled within the first month of ChatGPT Go's introduction. Currently available in nearly 90 markets worldwide, the Go plan demonstrates particular success in India.

Commitment to Indian AI Development

The initiative aligns with both OpenAI's "India-first" strategy and the Indian government's IndiaAI mission. Beyond consumer offerings, OpenAI collaborates with:

  • Civil society organizations
  • Educational platforms
  • Government-led programs

to broaden AI tool accessibility and foster inclusive innovation nationwide.

The company plans to establish an office in New Delhi soon after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding expansion plans.

The telecom giant Airtel complements these developments by offering a free one-year Perplexity Pro plan. Existing ChatGPT Go subscribers will automatically qualify for the free year extension.

Key Points:

🌟 Free Access: Indian users get one year of ChatGPT Go starting November 4 📈 Enhanced Features: Includes higher message limits and more image generation 🤝 Strategic Partnerships: Collaborations with government and educators drive AI adoption
