Brave Browser Introduces AI-Powered 'Ask Brave' Feature

Brave Browser Launches Privacy-Focused AI Search Feature

Browser developer Brave announced the launch of Ask Brave, a new AI-powered search feature that provides comprehensive, report-style answers to user queries while maintaining strong privacy protections. The feature expands Brave's existing AI Answers functionality, which currently processes over 15 million queries daily.

How Ask Brave Works

The new feature integrates seamlessly with standard searches:

  • Automatically detects query types to provide appropriate responses
  • Accessible via question button next to search box or "Ask" tag on results pages
  • Users can prefix queries with "??" when Brave is set as default search engine

Josep M. Pujol, Head of Brave Search, explained: "AI Answers provide quick summaries, while Ask Brave offers longer responses with follow-up capabilities and chat functionality for deeper research."

Enhanced Answer Formatting

Ask Brave delivers responses resembling outputs from ChatGPT or Perplexity, including:

  • Embedded links to sources
  • Video and image carousels
  • Option to reformat answers or ask follow-up questions

The company uses its proprietary API to verify result accuracy and conduct in-depth research on complex queries.

Privacy Differentiation in Competitive Market

While similar to AI features from Google and Microsoft Bing, Brave emphasizes its privacy advantages:

  • Encrypted chat histories
  • Automatic deletion after 24 hours of inactivity

The launch comes as major tech firms expand AI search capabilities globally. Last week, Google completed Spanish-language rollout of its AI Overviews feature.

Market Positioning Strategy

The move strengthens Brave's differentiation in the crowded AI search space by combining:

  1. Advanced research capabilities
  2. Multimedia content integration
  3. Strong privacy protections

The company aims to attract privacy-conscious users seeking alternatives to dominant search platforms.

Key Points:

  • New Feature: Ask Brave provides detailed, report-style AI answers
  • Usage Stats: Processes 15M+ daily queries across all AI features
  • Privacy Focus: Encrypts data, deletes inactive chats after 24 hours
  • Market Context: Competes with Google/Bing while emphasizing privacy
