Imagine opening Enterprise WeChat and finding a new contact: WorkBuddy, your AI colleague. That's exactly what Tencent is rolling out. On October 14, WorkBuddy announced a deep integration with Enterprise WeChat, turning the AI assistant into a chatbot that sits right in your contact list. No more switching apps or copying data—just chat with it like you would with a human coworker.

What Can WorkBuddy Do?

Once added, WorkBuddy can tap into ten capabilities within your enterprise's authorization scope—messages, documents, meetings, micro-drives, and more. Need to catch up on unread messages? WorkBuddy sorts them into three neat piles: "To Handle," "To Pay Attention To," and "Other." It even summarizes each with action items. Forward a work message from a group chat to WorkBuddy, and it automatically identifies referenced online docs, micro-drive files, schedules, to-dos, meetings, and smart minutes. You can also reference micro-drive files directly in the input box or ask WorkBuddy to send messages or share products to private or group chats—with your confirmation before sending, of course.

Seamless Switching and Collaboration

The WorkBuddy robot syncs context between the app and desktop, so you can switch devices mid-conversation without losing your train of thought. Scheduled tasks and message push switches let you set tasks to run on time and have results pushed back automatically. In the document library, you can @ and invite Enterprise WeChat members to collaborate—just like you would with any other colleague.

Admin Controls and Availability

This feature is available for verified enterprises. WorkBuddy needs to be version 5.8.0 or higher, and Enterprise WeChat version 5.0.12 or higher. Administrators must enable it in the background. Enterprises can manage account allocation, permissions, and usage through the admin console. Operations like viewing meeting content or searching emails require employee authorization, and WorkBuddy only acts within the authorized scope.

Why It Matters

Enterprise WeChat already covers over 14 million real enterprises and organizations, serving 750 million WeChat users. This update connects Tencent's connectivity strength with WorkBuddy's task execution, letting enterprises avoid switching platforms or migrating data. AI agents are no longer just a buzzword—they're being embedded into existing office workflows. The question is: will employees welcome this new colleague, or will it take some getting used to?
