WorkBuddy Joins Enterprise WeChat: Your New AI Coworker

On October 14, Tencent announced that its WorkBuddy AI assistant is now deeply integrated with Enterprise WeChat. This means the 14 million real enterprises and organizations on the platform can add WorkBuddy as a contact—just like adding a human colleague. Once added, users can issue commands directly in chats, and WorkBuddy will execute tasks within the enterprise's authorized scope.

What Can WorkBuddy Do?

Think of WorkBuddy as a super-efficient assistant that never sleeps. It can call ten capabilities, including messages, documents, meetings, and micro-drives. For instance, it can categorize your unread messages and emails into 'To Handle,' 'To Pay Attention To,' and 'Other,' then summarize them along with action items. You can also forward work messages from group chats to WorkBuddy, and it will automatically identify referenced online documents, micro-drive files, schedules, to-do lists, meetings, and smart minutes.

But that's not all. The input box lets you directly reference micro-drive files or ask WorkBuddy to send messages or share products to private or group chats. Don't worry—it will ask for your confirmation before sending anything.

Seamless Across Devices

WorkBuddy syncs context between the app and desktop, so you can switch devices mid-conversation without losing your train of thought. Scheduled tasks and message push switches allow tasks to run on time and results to be automatically pushed back to you. In the document library, you can @mention and invite Enterprise WeChat members to collaborate.

For enterprises, managing WorkBuddy is straightforward. Admins can allocate accounts, set permissions, and monitor usage through the background. Operations like viewing meeting content or searching emails require employee authorization, and WorkBuddy only acts within the authorized scope.

Why This Matters

Enterprise WeChat covers over 14 million real enterprises and organizations, serving 750 million WeChat users. This update connects Tencent's connectivity capabilities with WorkBuddy's task execution capabilities, allowing enterprises to avoid switching platforms or migrating data. AI agents are beginning to embed themselves into existing office workflows—and it's happening right inside the tools people already use every day.

Key Points:

  • WorkBuddy is now a contact in Enterprise WeChat, enabling direct chat-based commands.
  • It handles messages, documents, meetings, and more, with automatic categorization and summarization.
  • The integration requires WorkBuddy 5.8.0+ and Enterprise WeChat 5.0.12+, and must be enabled by admins.
  • Context syncs across devices, and scheduled tasks push results back automatically.
  • Enterprises maintain control over permissions and usage, with actions limited to authorized scope.
  • This move brings AI agents into everyday workflows for 14 million businesses.
