WorkBuddy Joins Enterprise WeChat: 14 Million Companies Get an AI Colleague

Tencent's WorkBuddy has officially clocked in as a new colleague for Enterprise WeChat users. On October 14, the company announced a deep integration that adds WorkBuddy to the Enterprise WeChat contact list as a chatbot. Employees can now issue commands directly in chats, and the assistant will handle tasks across messages, documents, meetings, and micro-drives—all within the scope of enterprise authorization.

Who can use it? Verified enterprises, for starters. WorkBuddy needs version 5.8.0 or higher, and Enterprise WeChat must be on version 5.0.12 or above. Admins also need to enable the feature in the background. Once set up, the bot becomes a familiar face in the contact list.

What can it actually do? Plenty. For unread messages and emails, WorkBuddy sorts them into three buckets: "To Handle," "To Pay Attention To," and "Other," then summarizes each with action items. Users can also forward selected work messages from group chats to WorkBuddy. The system automatically identifies referenced online documents, micro-drive files, schedules, to-do lists, meetings, and smart minutes. The input box supports direct references to micro-drive files, and you can command Buddy to send messages or share products to private or group chats—with a confirmation step before anything goes out.

Context syncs between the app and desktop, so you can switch devices mid-conversation without losing the thread. Scheduled tasks and message push switches let jobs run on time and push results back automatically. In the document library, users can @ and invite Enterprise WeChat members to collaborate.

What about privacy? Enterprises manage account allocation, permissions, and usage through the background. Actions like viewing meeting content or searching emails require employee authorization, and WorkBuddy only operates within that authorized scope. It's a guardrail, not a free pass.

Enterprise WeChat already covers over 14 million real enterprises and organizations, serving 750 million WeChat users. This update connects Tencent's connectivity muscle with WorkBuddy's task execution, letting companies avoid switching platforms or migrating data. AI agents are no longer a futuristic concept—they're quietly embedding themselves into the tools we already use every day.

Key Points:

  • WorkBuddy is now a chatbot contact in Enterprise WeChat, available to verified enterprises with admin enablement.
  • It handles message triage, document referencing, and message sending—all within authorized limits.
  • Context syncs across app and desktop, with scheduled tasks and push notifications.
  • Enterprise WeChat's 14 million enterprise users can now access AI assistance without leaving their workflow.
