This partnership positions UNSW alongside prestigious global institutions such as the University of Oxford, Columbia University, Arizona State University, London Business School, and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, all of which are already users of OpenAI technology. UNSW is currently conducting a 12-month pilot project involving 500 faculty members and students. The project aims to explore the use of ChatGPT Edu for enhancing productivity, developing academic courses, and addressing the diverse needs of students and educators.
Dr. Chrissy Burns, UNSW's Chief Information Technology Officer, emphasized the advantages of this collaboration, stating that it delivers a more powerful, secure, and personalized technology experience compared to the standard free or Plus versions of ChatGPT. She assured users that their questions would remain confidential and that their data would not be utilized for model training.
"The collaboration with OpenAI marks an important step in our journey to integrate cutting-edge technology into UNSW," Dr. Burns remarked. "With the enterprise-level features of ChatGPT Edu, UNSW ensures that researchers, educators, and students have access to advanced AI tools that meet their needs securely."
Professor Paul Andon, Deputy Dean of the UNSW Business School, expressed enthusiasm for the pilot initiative, stating, "As Australia's leading business school, we are thrilled to partner with OpenAI to drive the transformation of education. Through this pilot project, we are exploring new ways to collaborate with artificial intelligence to enhance the learning experience of business educators and students on a large scale."
In addition to the partnership with OpenAI, UNSW has also signed agreements with other leading AI platforms, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, and Adobe. These collaborations aim to further promote technological innovation and application within the university, enhancing the overall educational experience for its community.
