StepZen unveils native AI agent system and first phone STEPX Neo

On July 13, StepZen held a launch event in Beijing, unveiling its latest push into AI-powered terminals. The company introduced three key products: a native agent operating system called Step AOS, a new AI terminal brand STEPX, and its first smartphone, the STEPX Neo.

Step AOS: An OS Built for Agents

Step AOS is designed from the ground up for intelligent agents. It restructures hardware scheduling and system resource allocation to deliver better stability and performance. The system focuses on three core capabilities:

  • Memory: A dual-domain, three-step memory structure lets the agent deeply understand and remember user preferences. It self-iterates through an agent domain, offering a personalized experience that improves with use.
  • Decision-making and execution: An edge-cloud multi-brain system dynamically judges task complexity. Simple tasks get quick responses; complex ones trigger deeper thinking. A hierarchical linkage mechanism allocates models based on cost and speed, and can migrate capabilities when needed.
  • Security: A four-dimensional security loop includes trusted execution, operation audit, controllable permissions, and one-click undo for accidental actions. User data stays within secure boundaries, and the operation process is transparent and traceable.

The system also introduces a new NUI (Natural User Interface) that lets users express intent without step-by-step instructions. The built-in agent partner, StepAmoo, learns from the environment and user habits to become a smarter personal assistant.

STEPX Neo: The First AI-Native Phone

The STEPX Neo is the first smartphone under the STEPX brand. It features a unique rear horizontal dual camera and a secondary screen. StepZen says the phone represents a deep integration of model, software, and hardware.

While full specifications haven't been released, the company announced partnerships with dozens of ecosystem partners, including WPS, Meituan, Didi, and Gaode. StepZen also plans to launch the "STEPX Imagination Plan," which will let users help define the terminal's capabilities and explore AI experiences tailored to real-life scenarios.
