Shanghai's Vision for AI

During the ceremony, Tang Wenkan, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, outlined a grand vision for creating an AI-centric city. He emphasized the importance of developing an ecological framework for the intelligent connected vehicle industry through a technical strategy that focuses on single vehicle intelligence and vehicle-road-cloud collaboration.

Comprehensive Autonomous Driving Framework

Shanghai's approach to autonomous driving is notably thorough. The city has established a complete data processing chain, which encompasses the processes of collection, cleaning, labeling, testing, and application. This initiative aims to create a dataset and scenario library containing tens of millions of autonomous driving data points.

In addition to data collection, a practical training platform for autonomous driving is under development. This platform will integrate vehicle data, traffic light information, and real-time road conditions from across Shanghai. Furthermore, it will explore the use of world models to generate virtual scene data, which will assist in model training and evaluation.

A 100-kilometer 5G-A vehicle networking demonstration project has also been initiated in Jinqiao, Pudong, to validate typical application scenarios for autonomous driving technology.

Achievements in Testing and Development

Shanghai has made substantial progress in the area of autonomous driving testing. Currently, the city has opened 1,003 test roads, with a total mileage exceeding 2,000 kilometers. To date, 794 vehicles from 32 companies have received licenses for road testing, demonstration applications, and operations. These vehicles have collectively accumulated a testing mileage of approximately 22.9 million kilometers and a testing duration of 1.22 million hours.

These statistics underscore Shanghai's commitment and capability in advancing autonomous driving technology, setting a robust foundation for future developments in the sector.
