Samsung's 50g Galaxy Glasses: No Screen, Just Gemini AI on Your Face

Samsung has finally put a large language model on your face. On July 22, the company unveiled its first AI smart glasses, the Galaxy Glasses, marking its entry into wearable AI hardware.

These aren't your typical smart glasses. They're a collaboration between Samsung, Google, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker, running Android XR and deeply integrating Google's Gemini multimodal AI. The goal? An all-day, hands-free visual assistant that lives on your face.

No screen, no problem

The most striking feature is what's missing: a screen. The glasses look like regular optical frames, weighing around 50 grams. Instead of an AR display, they use high-definition cameras on both sides of the frame to capture the real world. Gemini processes that visual info and reads the results through speakers built into the temples. This trade-off keeps weight and power consumption low, making them comfortable for all-day wear.

Inside, they pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen1 chip with four Arm cores clocked at 1.9GHz, plus a 12-megapixel image sensor that records full HD video at 30fps. Dual privacy indicator lights on the frame glow when recording, so people know you're capturing.

Three real-world uses

Gemini's multimodal skills shine in three scenarios: work, travel, and communication. In meetings, the glasses can automatically capture whiteboard text and save it to Samsung Notes. When you're out, they provide real-time voice navigation and language translation. Instead of pulling out your phone, the AI summarizes and reads messages aloud. During calls, it can share a first-person live video hands-free. The glasses also have context memory, keeping track of multi-step tasks to reduce repetition.

How you control them

Interaction is simple. A touch-sensitive area on the right temple handles basics: swipe for volume, tap to answer calls, long-press to start recording. Pair them with a Galaxy Watch9, and you unlock air gesture control—no hands needed.

Battery life is solid: 9 hours of continuous use, and the charging case provides 7 additional full charges. That's enough for a full day out.
