Qualcomm has officially introduced its next-generation artificial intelligence chips, AI200 and AI250, positioning itself as a formidable competitor to market leader NVIDIA. The launch has garnered significant attention, driving Qualcomm's stock price up by more than 20%.

Advanced Chip Technologies

The AI200 chip is designed for rack-scale AI inference, focusing on reducing total cost of ownership (TCO) while enhancing performance. It supports 768GB of LPDDR memory, making it ideal for large language models (LLMs) and multimodal models (LMMs). This memory capacity ensures efficient inference at lower costs.

In contrast, the AI250 employs an innovative near-memory computing architecture, delivering over ten times the memory bandwidth. This design significantly cuts power consumption and improves efficiency for AI inference tasks. Both chips are equipped with direct liquid cooling technology to optimize heat dissipation.

Comprehensive Software Stack

Beyond hardware, Qualcomm has rolled out a robust AI software stack, spanning from application to system software. This stack is tailored for AI inference, featuring tools like the Efficient Transformers Library and an AI inference suite. Developers can seamlessly deploy and manage models using these resources. The AI200 is slated for commercial release in 2026, followed by the AI250 in 2027. This strategic rollout underscores Qualcomm's ambitions in the AI sector and has already made waves in the market.
