Smaller Models, Smarter Assistance

Both chips pack a new sensing hub that can run small models with up to 200 million parameters. In plain English, that means your phone can handle a local voice note-taking assistant, tell different speakers apart, and even build memories based on your daily habits. The result is an AI agent that listens, understands, and responds—all without sending your data to the cloud.

The Extreme Version Goes Big

The standard Gen 6 brings a new accelerator for more efficient AI processing. But the Extreme version steals the show: it can run a mixture of experts (MoE) model with 30 billion parameters right on the device. Here's the clever part—the system only activates the parameters it needs for a given task, so you get the power without draining your battery. For context, Apple showed off a 200-billion-parameter MoE at WWDC in June, but that's not running locally on your iPhone.

Beyond AI: Cameras and Audio Get a Boost

Qualcomm didn't stop at AI. The new CPU offers pixel-level camera control for more professional shots, better stabilization, and smarter motion handling. The Extreme chip supports 8K 60fps video and 4K 240fps slow-motion, plus a new advanced professional video (APV) codec. On the audio front, both chips use AI to enhance voices and cut background noise. There's also a new "voice bubble" feature that isolates your voice during calls—no more "sorry, I'm in a noisy café."

When Can You Get One?

Motorola has already announced its new flagship, the Motorola Signature 27, will sport the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Expect it to hit shelves later this year. Industry watchers say this is a sign that smartphones are becoming the main stage for bringing AI to the masses.
