Perplexity Acquires Read.cv: User Data Migration Details
Professional social networking platform Read.cv has announced its acquisition by the AI-powered search engine Perplexity. This acquisition will result in the official cessation of Read.cv's operations this Friday. Users are advised that they can export their data, which includes profiles, posts, and messages, until the deadline of May 16.
In an official blog post, Read.cv expressed its admiration for Perplexity, stating, "We have always admired Perplexity and believe that great things happen when the world's knowledge becomes more open and accessible. In this spirit, we are very excited to join Perplexity's design and engineering team to continue our shared mission of exploration and discovery." This announcement has garnered significant attention across social media platforms.
Perplexity's CEO Aravind Srinivasan welcomed the news on social media, praising the Read.cv team's expertise in creating consumer and social experiences. He expressed enthusiasm for exploring new directions in collaboration with Read.cv's team.
Founded in 2021 by former professionals from Facebook, Mozilla, and Salesforce's Quip product designer Andy Zhong, Read.cv offers a suite of tools that enables users to share resumes and connect with peers. The platform also provides organizations with features such as team profiles, job postings, and candidate searches.
Recently, Read.cv introduced the “Sites” feature, allowing users to create websites using their profiles. Additionally, users have the option to obtain a “.cv” domain from Read.cv and link it to their profiles. Starting January 31, Read.cv will begin migrating the “.cv” domain to its partner Hello.cv, ensuring that users can continue managing these domains seamlessly.
At this time, Perplexity's future plans for Read.cv remain unclear. However, it is evident that Perplexity is gradually increasing its investment in enterprise service features. Last summer, Perplexity launched an enterprise plan that includes user management and internal knowledge search functionalities. This move may be in response to investor demands for quicker returns on their investments. Reports indicate that Perplexity has raised over $500 million from various investors, achieving a valuation of $9 billion.
Read.cv marks the third acquisition for Perplexity, which previously acquired Carbon, a company focused on connecting AI systems with external data sources, and in 2023, acquired Spellwise, whose CEO was brought on board to develop Perplexity's mobile application.
