OPPO and Manus Team Up: Mobile AI Now Executes Tasks, Not Just Answers

OPPO and Manus Join Forces: Mobile AI Learns to Get Things Done

Remember when your phone's AI could only answer questions? Those days are fading fast. OPPO just announced a partnership with AI agent platform Manus, and the goal is ambitious: turn your phone from a know-it-all into a do-it-all assistant. The collaboration integrates Manus' agent tech into OPPO's AI Mind Pilot, pushing mobile AI from simple Q&A to multi-step task execution.

First stop? The OPPO Find X10 series, which will ship with ColorOS 17. This isn't just a minor update—it's a step toward what OPPO calls "personalized proactive intelligence."

From Questions to Actions

So what does an "agent mode" actually do? According to OPPO, AI Mind Pilot can now understand your goal, break it into steps, and then—here's the kicker—actually carry them out. It pulls information, calls tools, and produces ready-to-use results. It can even handle files and photos stored on your phone.

Imagine planning a trip. Instead of hopping between apps for flights, hotels, restaurants, and attraction tickets, you just tell the AI what you want. It gathers everything, mixes in online info, and spits out a personalized itinerary. Or say you need to create a presentation. The AI can organize your photos, summarize local documents and web info, and generate slides, proposals, or portfolios.

Tang Kai, OPPO's President of Software Engineering, says the collaboration is all about boosting AI Mind Pilot's ability to grasp user intent, perform operations, and finish tasks. Zhang Tao, co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Manus, adds that smartphones are a key platform for personal AI agents, and baking them into the system lowers the barrier for advanced agents.

Privacy: What Happens on the Phone Stays on the Phone

Of course, letting an AI dig through your files raises eyebrows. OPPO is quick to address that. With ColorOS 17, local tasks—like searching, organizing, and renaming files and photos—are processed on the device. The original content never gets shared with Manus. If a task needs cloud processing, the system will ask for your explicit consent first.

That's a sensible approach. After all, an assistant you can't trust isn't much of an assistant.

The Bigger Picture

This partnership reflects a broader trend: phone makers are weaving AI agents directly into operating systems. We're moving past the era of AI as a mere information helper. Now it's about execution. Your phone isn't just telling you the weather; it's booking the restaurant, rescheduling the meeting, and drafting the follow-up email.

Will it work seamlessly? The devil's in the details, and we'll need to see real-world performance. But the direction is clear. Mobile AI is growing up—from answering to acting.
