OPPO and Manus Team Up: Mobile AI Learns to Actually Do Things

Imagine asking your phone to plan a weekend getaway, and instead of just showing search results, it actually books the tickets, reserves the hotel, and creates a day-by-day itinerary. That's the future OPPO and Manus are building together.

Yesterday, OPPO announced a collaboration with AI agent platform Manus to supercharge its AI Mind Pilot. The goal? Move mobile AI beyond simple Q&A into multi-step task execution. This new agent mode will debut on the OPPO Find X10 series, which comes pre-installed with ColorOS 17.

From Chatbot to Taskmaster

So what does this actually mean for you? The upgraded AI Mind Pilot can understand your goals, break down complex tasks, and generate usable results by pulling information and calling tools. It can even handle local files and photos on your phone.

Let's say you're planning a trip. The AI can gather flight options, hotel bookings, restaurant reservations, and attraction tickets scattered across different apps, then combine that with online info to craft a personalized itinerary. In the office, it can organize photos, summarize local files and online research, and whip up presentations, proposals, or portfolios.

The Brains Behind the Operation

Tang Kai, President of OPPO Software Engineering, explained that the partnership aims to boost AI Mind Pilot's ability to understand user intent, perform operations, and complete tasks. Zhang Tao, co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Manus, added that smartphones are a key platform for personal AI agents, and system-level integration helps lower the barrier for advanced agents.

Privacy: Your Data Stays Yours

Of course, with great power comes great responsibility. OPPO emphasized that ColorOS 17 processes local information on the device itself. The original content of tasks like searching, organizing, and renaming files and photos won't be shared with Manus. And if cloud processing is needed, the system will ask for your explicit consent first.

This collaboration reflects a broader trend: phone makers are weaving AI agents into operating systems, pushing AI from information assistance to actual task execution. It's a shift that could change how we interact with our devices—less tapping and swiping, more simply telling your phone what you need.
