Oculus Founder's Sesame AI Chat App Thinks While It Talks

Sesame AI Redefines Digital Conversations with 'Thinking While Speaking' Approach

Remember those frustrating chatbot interactions where you could practically hear the gears turning between responses? Sesame, the new conversational AI from Oculus founder Palmer Luckey's team, is changing that game entirely. Their freshly launched iOS app introduces what they call "fluid thinking" - AI that can search, process, and adapt mid-conversation just like humans do.

Breaking the Chatbot Mold

Traditional AI assistants force users into an awkward choice: either get quick but shallow responses, or wait through noticeable pauses for deeper analysis. Sesame's engineers solved this by developing a background search system that lets their AI agents multitask impressively. While chatting with you, they're simultaneously running multiple searches and seamlessly weaving the findings into the ongoing conversation.

"It's like talking to a well-read friend who can look things up without stopping the discussion," explains lead developer Maya Chen. "The AI can change direction mid-sentence if it finds better information, just like how humans think aloud."

Meet Your New AI Companions

The app launches with four distinct AI personalities:

  • Maya: The curious researcher who loves deep dives
  • Miles: Your witty, pop-culture savvy friend
  • Simone: The practical problem-solver
  • Charlie: The creative brainstormer

Each agent remembers your past conversations differently - some focus on facts while others prioritize your emotional tone. During beta testing, Maya and Miles alone attracted over a million users in weeks, prompting Sequoia Capital to lead a $250 million funding round.

More Than Just Talk

Recent updates add visual search results (complete with image cards) and a handy note-taking function. The team also introduced an incognito mode - the AI remembers context but won't store sensitive chats permanently.

But here's where it gets interesting: Sesame isn't stopping at conversation. By 2027, they plan to launch smart glasses that will let these AI agents act on your behalf across platforms. Imagine casually mentioning you need flowers for an anniversary, and your AI assistant handles the entire order before the conversation ends.

"We're moving from 'thinking with you' to 'acting for you'," says CEO Daniel Chen. "Soon, you won't need perfect command phrases - just talk naturally, and we'll handle the rest."

The iOS app is currently available in 39 countries (free with possible waitlist), with Android versions in development. As one early tester put it: "It's the first AI that actually feels like it's listening, not just waiting for its turn to speak."
