NVIDIA's Half-Year Revenue Hits $118B, Next-Gen AI Chips Ramp Up

NVIDIA has once again delivered a financial report that's turning heads across the globe. The company's fiscal 2027 half-year results show explosive growth, with total revenue reaching $177.8 billion and net income attributable to shareholders hitting $118 billion—a 161% year-over-year jump. These numbers aren't just impressive; they're a clear signal that the AI infrastructure boom is far from over.

A Quarter That Beat Expectations

The second quarter was particularly stellar. Revenue came in at $96.2 billion, up 106% year-over-year and 18% sequentially. Gross margin held steady at 75%, and net income reached $59.7 billion, up 126% from the same period last year. Earnings per share were $2.47 (basic) and $2.46 (diluted). Analysts had predicted strong results, but NVIDIA still managed to outperform.

Data Center: The Engine of Growth

It's no secret that data centers are NVIDIA's cash cow. In Q2, this segment generated $89 billion in revenue, a 117% increase year-over-year. Hyperscale cloud providers doubled their spending, and revenue from ACIE (AI Compute Infrastructure) jumped 138%. Edge computing also chipped in with $7.2 billion, up 27%, thanks to strong sales of Blackwell workstations.

Next-Gen Hardware Hits the Market

NVIDIA's new Vera Rubin platform has entered full mass production, and major cloud vendors are already deploying it. The company also launched Vera, its first CPU designed specifically for AI agents, and the Groq 3 LPX inference accelerator is now in full production. These moves underscore NVIDIA's commitment to staying ahead in the AI hardware race.

Beyond Chips: AI Ecosystem Expansion

NVIDIA isn't just selling chips; it's building an entire ecosystem. The company has partnered with financial institutions to create a computing financing platform aimed at mobilizing over $500 billion for global AI infrastructure. It's also collaborating with the Japanese government on the world's first national-level AI infrastructure project. In the realm of physical AI, new platforms like Cosmos3 and the Isaac GR00T humanoid robot reference design are helping developers push boundaries.

Shareholder Returns and Future Outlook

NVIDIA returned about $26 billion to shareholders in Q2 and still has $99 billion left in its buyback authorization. Looking ahead, the company expects Q3 revenue to hit $108 billion (give or take 2%), with gross margins around 74%. Operating expenses are projected at $9.2 billion (GAAP) and $9 billion (non-GAAP), and the full-year tax rate is expected to be between 16% and 18%.
