NotebookLM Expands Video Overviews to 80+ Languages

Google's NotebookLM Adds Multilingual Video Overviews

Google's AI-powered note-taking tool NotebookLM has significantly expanded its language capabilities with a major update to its Video Overviews feature. The tool now supports over 80 languages, including Chinese, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, and multiple Indian languages like Hindi, Tamil, and Marathi.

Breaking Language Barriers in AI Note-Taking

The update, announced on August 26, 2025, represents a substantial leap in making the tool accessible to a global audience. Originally launched in July 2025 with only English support, Video Overviews allow users to transform notes, PDFs, and images into dynamic video presentations.

With this expansion:

  • Students can review lecture materials in their native language
  • Researchers can summarize complex reports more effectively
  • Professionals can create project documentation videos without language constraints

The videos maintain all key elements including charts, citations, and critical information while delivering content in the user's preferred language.

Enhanced Audio Capabilities

Simultaneously, Google has upgraded NotebookLM's Audio Overviews feature. Previously, non-English audio summaries were limited in depth compared to their English counterparts. The update brings parity across all supported languages:

  • Detailed audio explanations now available in all supported languages
  • Option remains for concise highlight versions when needed
  • Improved accuracy and naturalness of non-English voice output

Global Rollout and Future Plans

The updates began rolling out globally on August 26 and are expected to reach all users within a week. Google hinted at future integrations with other productivity platforms and additional language support to further enhance the tool's utility in education and professional settings.

Key Points:

  1. 80+ language support added to NotebookLM's Video Overviews
  2. Audio Overviews upgraded for richer non-English content
  3. Global availability within one week of announcement
  4. Potential future integrations with other productivity tools
