MiHoYo's AI Companion 'BSide: Olivia Lin' Lets You Make Music Videos from MIDI Files

MiHoYo, the studio behind blockbusters like Genshin Impact, has quietly launched a very different kind of project. 'BSide: Olivia Lin' is now available in early access on Steam, and it's not a game at all. Instead, it's an AI companion tool that mixes interactive chat, music generation, and desktop dynamic wallpapers into one cozy package.

To get started, you'll need to link your MiHoYo account, and you can also associate it with your Steam account. Once inside, you meet Lin Li, a young woman from Shanghai who majors in piano and minors in psychology. She loves vinyl records, old movies, and rainy days, and she's currently researching the connection between music and memories.

An AI That Plays Piano and Listens

The core experience revolves around Lin Li's piano performances. Each piece she plays reflects her understanding of music and memories. But the really cool part? You can upload your own MIDI files to her, and the system will automatically generate a corresponding music video. It's a neat way to preserve creative inspiration or just see your melodies come to life visually.

Beyond music, you can also interact with Lin Li through text. Write her a letter, share your thoughts, and she'll respond in character. The app includes AI-driven music creation, MIDI and audio generation, and text generation. You can generate music-related content, audio results, creative suggestions, and letter texts by actively inputting or selecting materials.

A Character with a Backstory

Lin Li didn't just appear out of thin air. Since August 28, 2025, the Bilibili account 'Lin Li Olivia' has been posting piano performance videos. In March of this year, it started sharing videos of reading and responding to letters, building up anticipation for this official release. The developers say the app is still being refined, and this early access phase is all about collecting user feedback to help them polish the experience.
