The Tech Behind the Scanner

The newly launched Midjourney Scanner resembles something from a sci-fi film. Users step into a shallow pool while a ring-shaped array of sensors glides overhead, emitting and receiving ultrasound signals. Developed in partnership with Butterfly Network, the device packs 40 imaging modules into its sleek design.

"Think of it like echolocation for your entire body," explains CEO David Holz. "In just one minute, we can create detailed 3D maps showing everything from muscle mass to bone density—all without X-rays or MRIs."

A New Vision for Health Tracking

Midjourney's ambitions extend far beyond traditional medical imaging. The company envisions these scanners becoming as commonplace as fitness trackers, with people using them to monitor changes from their workouts or diet plans. To bring this concept to life, Midjourney plans to open a futuristic wellness center in San Francisco's Union Square by late 2027, combining scanning technology with fitness and spa services.

The Road Ahead

While the technology shows promise, challenges remain. The current system focuses on body composition rather than medical diagnosis, carefully avoiding the complex FDA approval process required for diagnostic tools. "We're starting with wellness applications," Holz admits. "The path to clinical use will take time, better data policies, and continued tech refinement."

Industry experts see this as Midjourney's attempt to diversify its AI capabilities. With 2 PFLOPS of computing power backing the scanner, the company appears determined to push boundaries beyond its creative roots.
