Microsoft Tests Word for iPad with Copilot AI Integration

Microsoft announced on July 7 that it has officially invited members of the Microsoft 365 Insider program to test the iPad version of Word 2.109 (Build 26051516). The core of this update is the deep integration of the Copilot AI assistant, aiming to comprehensively upgrade the document editing experience on mobile devices through artificial intelligence technology.

With this feature upgrade, iPad users can directly use Copilot to quickly transform scattered ideas and fragmented information into well-structured documents, significantly reducing the need to switch between various productivity tools. In terms of text optimization, this AI assistant supports fine-tuning the tone of the text according to user instructions, automatically adding titles, and optimizing paragraph layouts, ensuring efficient and uniform formatting of the entire document.

However, the current test version of Copilot still has certain limitations: its functionality is currently limited to modifying existing files and does not support creating new documents. Additionally, functions such as image generation and insertion, adding or editing comments are not yet available. When users modify text segments containing comments, existing comments may be overwritten and deleted.

Under the current trend of large model technology rapidly penetrating mobile office scenarios, Microsoft's move marks further deepening of its "AI all-in-one" ecosystem within the iOS ecosystem. Embedding generative AI capabilities into core components on the tablet side not only meets the growing demand for lightweight and intelligent productivity tools in the era of ubiquitous work but also provides a benchmark for the transformation of interaction patterns in mobile office software.

Key Points

  • Microsoft tests Word for iPad with Copilot AI integration.
  • Copilot helps transform ideas into structured documents and optimize text.
  • Current limitations: only modifies existing files, no image generation or comment editing.
  • Move signals deeper AI integration in mobile office ecosystem.
