Microsoft Copilot Adds ChatGPT-Style Memory Feature

Microsoft Copilot Enhances AI Capabilities with Memory Management

Microsoft Copilot is advancing its capabilities as an intelligent assistant with a significant update centered around memory management, mirroring functionality seen in OpenAI's ChatGPT. The platform is also expanding integration options, including support for Google Drive, to offer users a more tailored experience.

New Memory Feature Unveiled

The latest version of Copilot now includes a "Manage Memory" toggle, allowing users to instruct the AI to retain specific details through simple commands. While users cannot yet view all stored memories directly, they can clear saved data via privacy settings.

Microsoft plans to roll out a dedicated memory management interface in future releases, enabling manual editing and deletion of stored information. This upgrade aims to refine Copilot's personalization accuracy.

Expanded Third-Party Integrations

Copilot's connector framework already supports interactions with applications like OneDrive, and Google Drive integration is imminent. Once live, users will be able to:

  • Search Drive folders for files
  • Query file contents
  • Generate document summaries

The AI's "Deep Research" feature will also see broader availability, granting free users up to five sessions.

Subscription Model Considerations

While OneDrive and Google Drive lead the integration push, Microsoft intends to add more services soon. Some connector features may require Copilot's $20/month premium subscription. These enhancements will deploy progressively across web, Windows 11, and mobile platforms.

Key Points:

  • Memory management enables ChatGPT-style information retention
  • Future updates will allow manual memory editing
  • Google Drive integration coming soon alongside existing OneDrive support
  • Some advanced features may require paid subscription
  • Updates aim to strengthen Copilot's position in the competitive AI assistant market
