Meta's Style Sketch: Your Old Photos Become an AI Stylist

Meta's Style Sketch: Your Old Photos Become an AI Stylist

Meta has quietly launched Style Sketch, a free fashion app that scans your social media photos to build a virtual wardrobe and serve up outfit ideas. The app, now available in Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand, connects to Facebook or Instagram, recognizes clothing from images you've already shared, and lets you add new items by snapping a photo or uploading from your camera roll. Think of it as a digital closet that gathers your scattered style in one place.

From Wardrobe to Runway

Once your clothes are cataloged, Style Sketch kicks into stylist mode. It combines your preferences and body shape to dress a virtual model that mirrors your build and skin tone—so you can see how that jacket actually looks on someone like you, no imagination required. Need fresh outfit ideas for a particular piece? The app offers inspiration. Connect it to the weather, and it suggests daily looks. Plug in your destination, trip length, and activities, and it maps out a day-by-day travel wardrobe and packing list. You can also browse trend inspiration and share outfits with friends, turning personal styling into a social affair.

Southeast Asia Test Bed, Privacy Questions Remain

For now, Style Sketch is free on iOS and Android in those three Southeast Asian markets; Meta hasn't said if or when it will expand. Launching in emerging markets first lets the company test the waters without the stricter data regulations of Europe and the U.S. The privacy disclosures are somewhat vague: the app store page says it may process personal information and content like photos and videos, while Google Play notes that data is encrypted in transit and users can request deletion. But when AI starts managing your wardrobe, which old photos get accessed—and whether they can truly be wiped—are the dials users should keep a close eye on.

Key Points:

  • Style Sketch builds a virtual closet from your Facebook/Instagram photos.
  • It offers outfit suggestions, weather-based daily looks, and travel packing lists.
  • Virtual model matches your body type and skin tone.
  • Currently free in Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand.
  • Privacy concerns linger over photo access and data deletion.
