Meta's New Muse Image Lets You Generate Photos by Chatting on Instagram and WhatsApp

Meta has officially released its latest AI image generation model, Muse Image, marking the first such model from the company's Super Intelligence Lab. The tool is available for free through the Meta AI app and is now integrated into Instagram and WhatsApp, allowing users to generate high-quality images simply by describing their needs in natural conversation. This conversational approach dramatically lowers the barrier to entry, making AI-powered image creation accessible to anyone with a smartphone.

More Than Just 'Drawing Pictures'

Muse Image's capabilities extend far beyond simple text-to-image generation. It can simulate a photo of you standing in front of historical landmarks, cleanly remove distracting people from the background, and even generate usable QR codes based on custom prompts. One particularly practical feature is its ability to clearly render text within images, enabling users to create operation guides or infographics on specific topics.

To make the tool even more user-friendly, Meta AI includes a preset prompt panel offering one-click functions like repairing old photos, previewing how you'd look with a popular hairstyle, or transforming selfies into claymation characters or 16-bit game heroes. After taking a photo, users can also ask Meta AI to redesign a room using real products from Facebook Marketplace, allowing them to visualize different styles and layouts. This isn't just image generation—it's like having an AI interior designer at your fingertips.

Muse Spark Handles the Heavy Lifting

Behind the scenes, Muse Image works with a companion model called Muse Spark to handle multi-step background planning. This includes layout arrangements, real-time web information retrieval, and intelligent merging of multiple visual references. Users can even mention an Instagram account within the Meta AI app to incorporate public photos into their creations—a feature that can be turned off at any time. If modifications are needed, clicking the tag icon allows direct drawing, sketching, or annotation editing on the image. The AI remembers the full conversation context, making it easy to continuously adjust the style or add and remove elements.

In addition to image generation, Muse Image provides over 30 AI effects for Instagram Stories, including various customizable filters. The feature that allows users to generate images through direct conversations with Meta AI on WhatsApp is already available in some countries and regions. Regular creation is free, but after exceeding a certain quota, a paid Meta subscription plan is required. In the future, Muse Image will expand to more interfaces like Facebook and Messenger, and advertisers will also be able to call this model through Advantage+ creative. Meta has also revealed that another video generation model, Muse Video, is already in development, forming a dual-track layout of images and videos.
