Meta's Muse Image: Free AI Art on Instagram and WhatsApp

Meta officially launched its new AI image generation model, Muse Image, on July 7th. This is the first image generation model released by Meta's Super Intelligence Lab. The model is available for free through the Meta AI app and has also been launched on the social platforms Instagram and WhatsApp. Users can generate high-quality images by simply describing their needs in a conversational language.

Meta introduced several typical use cases: simulating a photo of you standing in front of a historical landmark, cleaning up the background by removing distracting people, or generating a usable QR code with custom prompts. Muse Image also has the ability to clearly render text in the image, allowing users to create operation guides or thematic infographics. Its practicality far exceeds general "image-to-text" generation tools.

Pre-set panels lower the barrier, and you can redesign a room using real products

To lower the usage barrier, Meta AI includes a pre-set prompt panel that offers one-click functions such as fixing old photos, viewing how you would look with a trendy hairstyle, converting your selfie into a clay animation character or a 16-bit game hero. After taking a photo, users can let Meta AI redesign a room using real products from Facebook Marketplace, allowing them to visually see the space effect under different styles. This means you are not just "generating images," but also "previewing your shopping list."

During the creative process, Muse Image works with Muse Spark to complete multi-step behind-the-scenes planning, including layout arrangement, finding real-time web information, and smartly merging multiple visual references. Users can mention an Instagram account in the Meta AI app to integrate public photos into image creation, and this feature can be turned off at any time. If you need to make changes, click the marker icon to directly draw, sketch, or annotate on the image. The AI will remember the full conversation context, making it easy to continuously adjust the style or add or remove elements.

30 AI effects enhance Instagram Stories, video models are on the way

In addition to image generation, Muse Image provides more than 30 AI effects for Instagram Stories, including various customizable filters used to modify existing photos. Currently, the feature of generating images through direct conversations with Meta AI in WhatsApp is available in some countries and regions, with more areas being gradually opened up. Daily creation is free, and a paid subscription plan from Meta is required after exceeding a certain limit.

In the future, Muse Image will expand to more interfaces of Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram and WhatsApp. Advertisers will also be able to call this model through Advantage+ creative in the coming weeks. Meta also revealed that another video generation model, Muse Video, is already in development. Over the past year, Meta has released several AI applications, including the assistant Creator and the game programming tool Pocket. Once criticized for a vague AI strategy, Meta is now accelerating to change this perception through a series of product implementations and continuous infrastructure investment.
