Google Veo3 Expands with Image-to-Video Feature

Google announced on Thursday the addition of an image-to-video generation feature to its Veo3 AI video generator, accessible through the Gemini app. This move significantly enhances the capabilities of Google's AI-driven creative tools, following its initial rollout in the Flow AI video tool at May's I/O Developer Conference.

Global Availability and User Limits

The feature is now available in over 150 countries and regions, but access is currently restricted to users subscribed to Google AI Ultra and Google AI Pro plans. These users are limited to creating three videos per day, with no additional quotas for further creations.

How It Works

Users can generate video clips by:

  1. Selecting the "Video" option in the Gemini app's tool menu.
  2. Uploading a photo as the base for their video.
  3. Optionally describing audio in the prompt to add sound to the output.

Once generated, videos can be downloaded or shared directly from the platform.

Market Response and Usage Data

Since its launch seven weeks ago, the Gemini app and Flow tool have facilitated the creation of over 40 million videos, demonstrating robust demand for AI-powered video generation tools. This rapid adoption underscores the growing interest in accessible, high-quality AI content creation.

Ensuring Content Traceability

All videos produced with Veo3 include:

  • A visible "Veo" watermark.
  • An invisible SynthID digital watermark, a proprietary Google technology for identifying AI-generated content.

Earlier this year, Google also released a dedicated detection tool to help users verify content containing SynthID watermarks, reinforcing its commitment to transparent AI content management.

Key Points

  • Image-to-video feature now live in Veo3 via Gemini app.
  • 40 million videos created in seven weeks globally.
  • Limited access: Only for Ultra/Pro plan users (3 videos/day).
  • Watermarking: Dual visible/invisible system (SynthID) for traceability.
