Google Steps into Legal AI with Gemini for Law Firms

Google has officially thrown its hat into the legal AI ring. On Tuesday, Alphabet's Google announced the expansion of its Gemini Enterprise platform, introducing a dedicated tool for law firms and legal professionals. Thomson Reuters, which owns Reuters and the Westlaw legal research database, recently launched its own industry-specific large model called Thomson 1.0, built on open-source technology and trained on vast amounts of authoritative legal content. Additionally, Google's platform will enable direct and secure connections with products from specialized legal AI developers such as Harvey and Legora.

According to a 2026 Deloitte report on AI in the legal industry, major law firms are heavily investing in AI technology, yet the transformation is still in its early stages. As generative AI becomes more widespread in legal research, document drafting, client management, and case management, firms are continuously reducing operational costs and significantly improving efficiency.
