Born in 1988, Zimmermann is a Canadian mathematician who showed early promise. He represented Canada in the International Mathematical Olympiad in 2003 and 2004, winning gold medals both times, with a perfect score in 2004. He studied at the University of Toronto, earned his Ph.D. from Princeton in 2011 under renowned number theorist Peter Sarnak, and did postdoctoral research at the Harvard Society of Fellows. Since 2014, he has been teaching at the University of Toronto.
