DingTalk Shakes Up Its Structure to Bet Big on AI Agents
DingTalk Reorganizes to Focus on AI Integration
In a significant move that underscores the growing importance of artificial intelligence in workplace tools, DingTalk announced a sweeping reorganization today. The changes, outlined in an internal letter from CEO Chen Yusen, aim to position the Alibaba-owned platform at the forefront of AI-powered enterprise collaboration.
The AI Team Shakeup
At the heart of the restructuring is the merger of two key AI teams. The Wukong team, known for its work on DingTalk's intelligent features, will now combine forces with the MuleRun group - an AI Agent product Chen previously developed at Alibaba Cloud. Shu Junliang, former CTO of MuleRun, will lead this new supercharged AI team.

"This isn't just about putting two teams together," explains a company insider who asked to remain anonymous. "It's about creating a unified vision for how AI can transform workplace productivity. MuleRun brings serious enterprise-grade AI capabilities to the table."
New Departments for a New Direction
The reorganization goes beyond just the AI teams. DingTalk is establishing:
- Core Platform Business Department: Headed by former CTO Zhu Hong (Yisu), this group will oversee foundational platform services
- Customer Development Department: Combining six existing teams including direct sales and telesales
- Marketing Department and Information Technology Department: Newly created to support the evolving business
What This Means for Users
For the millions of businesses using DingTalk, these changes could soon translate to:
- More intelligent automation in daily workflows
- Smarter meeting assistants and document handlers
- Enhanced predictive features across the platform
"We're entering what we call the 'Full-Agent Era,'" Chen wrote in his internal letter. "Where AI doesn't just assist but actively participates in work processes."
Analysts see this as DingTalk doubling down on its AI strategy amid increasing competition in the enterprise collaboration space. "The workplace tools race is becoming an AI race," notes tech analyst Li Wei. "DingTalk is making sure it doesn't get left behind."
