Claude Cowork Goes Mobile: Most Users Aren't Using It for Coding
Anthropic has rolled out its task-oriented agent, Claude Cowork, on web and mobile platforms, allowing users to seamlessly continue sessions and file operations across devices. The agent can handle tasks spanning files, calendars, emails, messaging apps, websites, and other connected tools until goals are met—ideal for knowledge work like data organization, document drafting, and client preparation.

Most Users Aren't Coding
Official data reveals a surprising trend: over 90% of Claude Cowork usage isn't for software development. Instead, it's concentrated on daily knowledge work. Business operations and content creation are the two biggest categories, accounting for about half of all usage. Specific tasks include expense verification, drafting memos, tracking contract renewals, and organizing client materials. Claude is evolving from a "programmer's assistant" into a versatile office partner.
Cross-Device Continuity
With this update, Cowork supports task continuation across devices. You can start a task on your desktop, check progress on your phone during your commute, and finish it at home—the task won't be interrupted when you switch devices.
Background Tasks and Human Oversight
Anthropic also upgraded background running capabilities, letting scheduled tasks run independently without any device being online. For example, you can set up a client preparation task for Monday at 6 AM. Claude will automatically read email clues, call records, and recent news, generate a briefing document, and draft follow-up emails—but won't send them until you approve.
When it comes to key decisions, Claude will proactively seek user confirmation, pushing requests directly to your mobile device. The company emphasizes that no content is automatically sent before user review, ensuring humans stay in control.
Currently, the web and mobile versions of Claude Cowork are in testing, initially available to Max users. Anthropic says it will invite more users in batches over the coming weeks.
