Chongqing's 'Yu Xiaojian' AI Doctor Now in 233 Hospitals

Chongqing just rolled out a pretty nifty AI helper for healthcare, and it's already live in 233 public hospitals across the city. Meet 'Yu Xiaojian' – an intelligent medical assistant designed to make your hospital visits a whole lot smoother.

Starting July 17, residents can access Yu Xiaojian through Alipay or the local Afu app. Need to know which department to visit? Just describe your symptoms, and the AI triage feature will point you in the right direction. Waiting for test results? You'll get real-time notifications and even a plain-English explanation of what those numbers mean – no more squinting at cryptic lab reports.

This isn't some overnight project. Yu Xiaojian was cooked up by the Chongqing Municipal Health and Wellness Commission, the Big Data Bureau, and Ant Group. They tapped into the city's digital infrastructure, hospital data, and Ant's large language model tech. The system first went into internal testing back in October 2025 at the Chongqing Maternal and Child Health Hospital, then expanded to 32 tertiary hospitals for a pilot run. So far, over 2 million users have given it a spin.

Now that it's official, Yu Xiaojian is connected to every public hospital at the secondary level and above in Chongqing. That's 233 institutions in total. Among them, 32 top-tier hospitals – including the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University and the Chongqing Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital – have rolled out features like cloud companionship (which helps you navigate check-in, appointments, payments, and picking up meds), real-time report queries, and AI-powered report interpretation. Basically, it's like having a helpful friend who knows the hospital inside out.

For report queries, once you authorize it, Yu Xiaojian can pull up your exam and lab results online. When a new report drops, you get an instant alert. And for those confusing medical terms – like blood routine or biochemistry markers – the AI breaks them down into simple advice, highlighting key abnormal items and what they might mean for your health.

During your visit, the cloud companionship service keeps you in the loop: queue progress, department locations, payment status – all available on your phone. No more wandering around asking for directions or wondering how much longer you'll wait. The AI triage also lets you type or speak your symptoms, helping match you with the right department and doctor, plus gives you info on in-hospital services.

This launch marks a real shift for Chongqing's healthcare system. By weaving AI into the patient journey, they're moving from just digitizing old processes to offering truly intelligent, personalized care. It's a glimpse of what smart healthcare can look like – and it's already here.
